I think the first answer is dead on. Some eccentrics wear bow ties all the time, like Gordon Gee, the president of Ohio State University. When you do that though the bow tie becomes a part of you, people don’t separate you from the bow tie. It becomes a physical characteristic, like the color of your hair or the shape of your chin.
