Shoes with a gray suit and blue tie?

I can’t really tell, but the suit appears to be with a light blue shirt and a navy blue tie. I own a suit that is a similar shade of gray. I always wear black shoes with this suit, but I was always told that wearing black shoes with a navy blue tie is against fashion rules.
What shoes should I wear with a shirt tie combination such as the one in the above picture?

Try a brown shoe! maybe tan.
