Is Wearing a Grey V Neck Sweater Over a Shirt And Tie Appropriate Dress For A Formal Night Out?
I have a grey V-Neck sweater and I was going to wear a blue and white shirt with a blue tie…I’ll be wearing proper formal trousers with proper formal shoes. Will this be suitable dress? Will it look good/okay?
I don’t have a suit and this is the best I could do!

A sport coat might be better depending on the formality of the occasion. Some restaurants have a dress code that requires a jacket.

No. A sweater does not take the place of a jacket for a formal occasion. Could you maybe borrow one from a friend or a relative? Maybe even rent one?

Sorry, but Formal means just that. Unless you know it to be Ties & Tails, you don’t need a tux. A dinner jacket, dress shirt & tie, pants and shoes will do. A business suit would be considered dressed down at a Formal event.
Call around to your local formal wear shops. Some bridal shops also carry men’s formal wear. Depending on the season, and possibly the event, the shop may offer specials on renting your outfit.
